Hospital wayfinding for the questions your front desk hears all day.

DigiMaps is hospital wayfinding software. Patients and visitors find departments, clinics, the pharmacy and prayer rooms on a kiosk, their own phone or your signage screens, with routes that can stay step-free. Hospital mode keeps clinical and staff-only areas off public screens and can run entirely on your own network.

Asked at the front desk

  • Which floor is Cardiology on? Level 2. Take Lift A, 96 m Level L2
  • Is there a way without stairs? Step-free routes use lifts and ramps only
  • Is the pharmacy still open? Ground floor. Open until 21:00 today Level G
  • Where is Maternity? Level 1, east side of the main block Level L1
  • Where can I pray? Prayer room, Level 1, next to the lifts Level L1
  • Can I take these directions with me? Scan the QR code. No app to install
Six questions every hospital reception hears. On a DigiMaps kiosk each one is a home tile, a search or a button. Wayvale General is a fictional hospital.

From the entrance kiosk to Cardiology, without a single stair.

A visitor taps Find a department, then Cardiology, and switches on Step-free. The route moves from the stairs to Lift A, and the router will not break that rule to save a few metres. One scan sends it to their phone with the same destination, language and step-free choice. Put a kiosk by the car park lifts and routes start where people park.

  1. 1 Kiosk at the main entrance. The route starts here.
  2. 2 Lift A to Level 2. With Step-free on, the stairs are never used.
  3. 3 Cardiology, Level 2: 96 m, about 2 minutes.

Six routing profiles: standard, wheelchair, reduced mobility, avoid stairs, stroller and low vision. When no step-free way exists, the kiosk says so and flags a best-effort route.

Step-free routes and reach mode in detail

What the hospital pack sets up before you draw a wall.

Choose Hospital when you create the venue and this is what you start with. Every line can be changed, and re-running the pack’s privacy rules never overrides a decision someone made by hand.

What visitors see

Home tiles
Find a department, Clinics, Pharmacy, Restrooms, Prayer rooms, Emergency. Emergency only appears if an emergency department is on the map.
Kiosk features
Information pages, accessibility, emergency mode, signage, events and QR hand-off to phones.
Search
41 synonym groups written for hospitals, complete in English and Arabic.
Routes
Six routing profiles. Visitor routes never pass through staff corridors: if that is the only way, the kiosk asks the visitor to see a member of staff.
Theme
The healthcare-calm preset, under your own colours, fonts and logo.

What your team gets

Label rules
125 rules sort the room labels in your CAD drawings into 20 categories and 35 service types. Arabic, Persian and Urdu letter variants are normalised.
Tests
195 built-in classification tests, plus a check against 412 de-identified hospital CAD labels.
Privacy
Sensitive by default: typed search text is not stored. Restrooms, prayer, treatment, therapy, waiting and outdoor zones are flagged for review.
Unknown rooms
A room type the pack does not recognise stays staff-only until someone decides otherwise.
Studio wording
The occupants page is titled Departments & services, not Stores.

Planning a hospital wayfinding project

Staff-only rooms never reach a public screen.

A hospital map holds more than visitors should see: on-call rooms, plant rooms, staff corridors. Studio keeps all of it. Visitors only ever get the published release, and the server takes the private rooms out before it leaves.

Studio · Level 2

  • Cardiology Public
  • Neurology Public
  • Clinics Public
  • Day lounge Public
  • Admin offices Staff only
  • On-call room Staff only
  • Staff corridor Staff only
  • Plant room Hidden

Publish

The server builds the public release and leaves out every staff-only and hidden room.

Every public screen

  • Cardiology
  • Neurology
  • Clinics
  • Day lounge
  • 4 rooms never sent

Left out of: Search, Directory, Directions, Landmarks, Notices, Public feeds, Deep links, QR codes.

Visibility is set per room in Studio’s Directory, with the reason recorded. Making a staff-only room public needs admin approval or a review. Fictional hospital.
  • Typed search text is dropped before storage in the hospital pack.
  • In the statistics, email addresses, phone numbers and ID numbers are scrubbed on the kiosk and again on the server, in Latin and Arabic digits.
  • Statistics hide any group smaller than five visitors.
  • Statistics are kept for 395 days by default, then purged. The period can be set per venue.

Hospital mode will not publish a map with one way out.

Choose the hospital life-safety profile and three checks run on every release. They cannot be overridden. If any point on the walking graph fails one, Studio refuses to publish.

  1. Two routable exits or more on the map.
  2. Two exit alternatives from every point on the walking graph.
  3. An accessible route to an accessible exit from every point.

These are DigiMaps release checks, not a certification, and they do not replace approval by your fire and safety authority. In an emergency, DigiMaps gives you one-tap emergency mode and nearest-exit guidance that supplements, never replaces, your approved signage and procedures.

Emergency mode and live closures

Short answers for hospital IT and information security.

We will go through each of these on a call and show you the documents behind them. If your hospital cannot send visitor data off site, start with the on-premises server.

Where does it run?
Our cloud, or DigiMaps Server on one machine on your network running Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04. There is also a Windows 11 / Server 2025 installer, but it has not yet been run on a real Windows host, so we would prove it on yours first.
Can it run with no internet?
Yes. It makes no outbound calls by default, and updates arrive as an offline bundle.
Where is the data?
Choose on-premises to keep every byte on your own server, or a cloud region agreed in your contract.
Is AI involved?
AI-assisted floor-plan tracing proposes room outlines that your team reviews and completes. It can be switched off, and is off by default on-prem.
What do visitors hand over?
Nothing. Kiosks have no sign-in and no personal-data forms, and every visitor starts a new anonymous session.
Patient systems?
No EHR or appointment-system connector ships today. Use deep links to destinations, the REST API (340+ operations) and HMAC-signed webhooks.
Backups and upgrades
Encrypted nightly backups with a second copy, verified restore, and upgrades that roll back automatically if the health check fails.
Security documents
Security questionnaire, threat model and penetration-test scope are available under NDA. Ask about our current compliance status.
Accessibility
Designed to support WCAG 2.1 AA, with automated accessibility checks in our build pipeline.

How DigiMaps Server runs on your network

Example scenario, not a customer

One morning at Wayvale General.

A fictional three-floor hospital with four kiosks: main entrance, car park lift lobby, Outpatients and Level 2. Here is what the screens do between ten and four.

  1. 10:00

    Facilities · Studio

Lift B goes out of service for maintenance. Facilities post a closure under Live updates until 12:00, using the Lift out of service notice template in English and Arabic.

  2. 10:00

    Every screen

Within seconds, step-free routes on every kiosk and phone use Lift A instead. Nobody republishes the map.

  3. 10:12

Kiosk · car park lift lobby

A woman bringing her father to Cardiology taps Find a department, then Cardiology, switches on Step-free and scans the QR code. Her phone opens the same route.

  4. 10:13

    Same kiosk

She walks off. After 60 seconds untouched, the kiosk clears the search, route, language and accessibility settings for the next visitor.

  5. 11:30

    Housekeeping · Studio

The Level 1 restrooms close for 20 minutes of cleaning. Routes to a restroom go to the Ground floor ones until the closure ends.

  6. 16:00

    Patient experience · Studio

Statistics show the busiest hours and top destinations by kiosk. Nobody can see what visitors typed into search: the hospital pack never stored it.

Questions hospitals ask us

Does DigiMaps integrate with our EHR or appointment system?

Not out of the box. No EHR or appointment-system connector ships today. Your patient portal or appointment messages can link straight to a destination with a deep link, and your developers can use the REST API and signed webhooks.

Do patients need to install an app?

No. Maps, search and directions open in the phone’s browser from the kiosk’s QR code or a link, with the same destination, language and step-free choice. A moving blue dot on iPhone would need a native app, which is on our roadmap rather than available today.

How are staff-only areas kept off public screens?

Every room has a visibility of Public, Staff only or Hidden in Studio. When you publish, the server leaves staff-only and hidden rooms out of everything visitors can reach, including search, directions, feeds and QR links. On a kiosk, staff see them only in staff mode, which opens with a PIN or staff sign-in.

Can DigiMaps run on the hospital network with no internet access?

Yes. DigiMaps Server runs the whole platform on one machine on your network, with no outbound calls by default and updates delivered offline. Kiosks keep working from their cached map, search and routes included, if the network drops.

Can it guide people out during an evacuation?

It can put an emergency message on every screen in every venue language and route visitors to the nearest reachable exit, where approved exit data is on the map. It supplements, and never replaces, your approved signage, alarms, staff and procedures.

Can the kiosk show Hindi or other Indian languages?

Venue content can be written in any of 54 languages, up to 24 per venue, and the kiosk has a Devanagari on-screen keyboard. The kiosk interface ships in English, Arabic, Russian and Chinese, and its Hindi strings are still in draft. For Devanagari and other Indic scripts, your venue supplies the map font.
