Studio: indoor mapping software and venue CMS

Studio is where your team builds and runs the venue map: draw or import floors, name every room in each language, set opening hours, then publish to every kiosk, phone and screen. Visitors only see what you publish, and any release can be rolled back.

21 tools for floors, doors and routes.

Atria get a hole tool, curved shopfronts get arcs and Bézier curves, and lifts and stairs get a transition tool that joins floors. Draw in 2D and check in 3D straight away, or open the exploded view to see every floor at once.

  • Snapping, numeric coordinates, alignment, mirror and repeat for regular layouts such as ward corridors.
  • Boolean operations, vertex editing, lasso, bulk edits, find and replace, and a command palette.
  • Drop a floor-plan image in as an underlay and trace over it.
  • The editor suggests what each room is as you draw it. You confirm or change it.
  • Walk the map at eye height before visitors do. Edit on a desktop or an iPad.

Every building keeps its own floors.

Campuses, towers and multi-block hospitals live in one venue. Each building has its own floor list, so two ground floors called G never clash. One Studio login covers every venue you manage.

Floors
Up to 50 per building. Add, rename or duplicate a floor.
New venue
A guided wizard: pick the industry, languages and buildings, then import plans, start blank or start from one of 24 templates.
Coordinates
Local metres from CAD, or WGS84 for a georeferenced campus.

Bringing in CAD, DWG and PDF floor plans

Pick “Hospital” and Studio already knows what a hospital needs.

Each of the 14 industry packs sets the categories, how CAD room labels are read, search synonyms, the kiosk home screen, a theme and the routing profiles. Hospital and government packs start with sensitive privacy settings. You can override any of it.

Pack Kiosk home screen tiles
Hospital Sensitive privacy Departments, clinics, pharmacy, restrooms, prayer, emergency
Mall Shop, dine, entertainment, services, restrooms, parking
Airport Gates, flights, check-in, baggage, dining, transport
Transit Platforms, departures, tickets, exits, bus, taxi
Campus Buildings, library, student services, dining, events, restrooms
Office Companies, meeting rooms, reception, food, restrooms, lifts
Government Sensitive privacy Services, counters, queue, payments, self-service, restrooms
Hotel Restaurants, bars, spa, meetings, pools, guest services
Museum Galleries, exhibitions, events, tickets, café, shop
Stadium Seat, food, restrooms, store, first aid, gates
Convention Halls, exhibitors, agenda, conference, registration, food
Park Play, trails, picnic, food, restrooms, visitor centre
Mixed use Retail, dining, offices, leisure, hotel, restrooms
Generic Explore, search, restrooms, info, food, lifts

Sensitive packs do not store typed search text, and rooms of unknown type stay staff-only until someone decides. Every pack is checked by an automated validator, with 112 to 195 built-in label tests each.

Six roles, set venue by venue.

The front desk can fix opening hours without being able to move a wall. A person can be a map editor at one hospital and a viewer at the next.

  • Enterprise SSO via SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect, set up with you by our engineers. Groups in your identity provider map to Studio roles.
  • A per-venue live-content permission lets, say, a help desk post closures and notices without map rights.
  • An append-only audit log records sign-ins, refused actions and live-content changes.
Studio roles and what each can do
01 Super admin Runs the whole installation. Single sign-on can never grant this role.
02 Workspace admin Manages venues, people and settings for the workspace, and can publish map changes.
03 Map editor Draws floors, units, doors and routes, and submits changes for review.
04 Content editor Keeps names, opening hours and translations right without touching the map geometry.
05 Statistics viewer Reads the visitor statistics.
06 Viewer Looks at the map and leaves comments on it.

Submit a draft. A colleague approves it or sends it back.

The reviewer sees what changed since the live version, row by row, and approves it or rejects it with a comment. Studio marks each release as content-only or geometry, so a new door never hides among renamed rooms.

Preflight runs on every publish

  • Egress Exits and the routes to them
  • Transitions Lifts, stairs and escalators between floors
  • Unnamed units Public rooms without a name
  • Geometry Broken or overlapping shapes
  • Accessibility Step-free connections
  • Isolated units Rooms nobody can reach

Critical map errors block publishing, so a broken route never reaches a kiosk. A built-in reviewer also flags missing exits, unlinked stairs and unnamed rooms before you publish.

Schedule tonight’s change. Undo it tomorrow if you must.

Publish now or at a set time. Scheduled publishes re-check rights and geometry when they fire. Kiosks load a new release only when nobody is using them, so no visitor loses a route halfway.

  4. Commissioning evidence current Renewed for the new door, because geometry changed High-assurance venues only

Scheduled publish: tonight 23:00, once approved. Rights and geometry are re-checked when it fires. A rollback goes through the same gates.

Kiosks load a new release only when idle, so no route is interrupted.

Versions and dates are illustrative. Wayvale General Hospital is a fictional demo venue.

Rolling back deletes nothing.

Choose an earlier version in the history and Studio publishes it again as a new one, through the same checks. The release you are undoing stays on record, with who published it and why.

Closures and notices don’t need a release at all. They go out from the Live tab within seconds.

Two editors on the same floor at the same time.

Studio merges edits on the server as they happen. You see who else is on the floor, their cursor and what they have selected. Viewers can comment on the map, and every change shows up in the activity feed.

Your map is yours. Export it whenever you like.

Every venue exports as IMDF, GeoJSON or KML, straight from Studio. Your developers can reach the same data through the REST API and webhooks.

Questions about Studio

What is indoor mapping software?

Indoor mapping software is used to draw and maintain digital maps of the inside of buildings: floors, rooms, doors and the routes between them. Studio is the indoor mapping software and CMS in DigiMaps. It also holds the directory, opening hours and languages, and publishes the map to kiosks, phones and signage.

Can several people edit the same venue at once?

Yes. Studio supports real-time co-editing: editors see each other’s cursors and selections, and changes are merged on the server. What each person can do comes from their role at that venue.

Who can publish changes?

That depends on the role and on what changed. Studio classes content-only changes, such as names and opening hours, separately from geometry changes, such as a moved wall, and publish rights follow the role. Changes can go through review and approval before anyone publishes.

Can we undo a published change?

Yes. Pick an earlier version in the release history and roll back. Studio publishes that version again as a new release, through the same checks, so nothing disappears from the history.

Is the Studio interface available in Arabic?

Not yet: Studio’s own buttons and menus are in English. The content you write in it, including names, notices and signage slides, can be in up to 24 languages per venue, with Arabic laid out right to left.

Can we get our map data out of DigiMaps?

Yes. Every venue exports as IMDF, GeoJSON or KML at any time, and the REST API gives your developers access to the same data.
